Walgreen Company (NYSE:WAG) noted 8.2 percent increase in front-end stores. The front-end stores sell candy and a wide range of other items that tend to sell well during holidays. The front-end stores are usually the areas outside the pharmacy. The company reported 7.3 percent in revenue improvement from same-store pharmacy. The improvements were noted in the stores that operated for at least one year, therefore, providing clearly visibility.<\/p>\n
In overall, revenue in April increased 6.3 percent from established stores. Those are stores operating for at least a year. The performance was better than what Wall Street expected in the month.<\/p>\n

Save for CVS Caremark Corporation (NYSE:CVS)<\/b> that does not usually report its monthly sales progress, all the major drugstore operators had something positive to show for April. Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE:RAD)<\/b> reported improvements in its April sales that helped to offset the soft March sales. RAD is the third-largest drugstore operator in the U.S. with CVS being the second-largest and Walgreen holds the podium position where it boasts $67 billion in market cap.<\/p>\n

Walgreen Company (NYSE:WAG) that operated 8,231 stores at the end of April witnessed total April sales up 9 percent to $6.49 billion. The number of stores by end of April was 145 higher than during the same period a year earlier.<\/p>\n
