(NYSE:GAS)<\/b> expects higher financial results in the first quarter due to the cold temperature condition. The company said that it hopes things will turn out better than previously anticipated as cold weather will boost its wholesale business.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Before interest and taxes, the company expects its wholesale business to contribute earnings of $270 million, which will be more than double the $100 million which was projected in the previous estimate. The combination of cold weather and strong demand in the Midwest and Northeast markets will be responsible for the big earnings, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Moreover, the company expects its retail and distribution segments to also witness earnings improvement in the first quarter. The company expects these segments to surpass expectations by about $0.15 per share, also due to the favorable business weather.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Sale of facility<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">AGL Resources Inc. (NYSE:GAS) announced the sale of its tropical shipping unit to Saltchek Resources Inc. The deal is put at $220 million. The transaction is expected to lead to writedown and tax expenses of about $0.42 per share in the first quarter. However, through the divestment of the shipping business, the company hopes to gain greater focus on natural gas and related business operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company operates natural gas storage facilities and utilities along the U.S. East Coast. The acquisition of Nicor Inc in 2011 helped make the company the largest U.S. distributor of natural gas. The company attains growth through acquisitions, and divestment of non-core assets allows it to get the most out of its natural gas facilities operations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Year outlook<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">AGL Resources Inc. (NYSE:GAS) is expecting between $15 and $25 million earnings before taxes and interest in the current year. That figure will include contribution from its stake in Triton Container which is expected to provide $9 million. The combination of strong demand, favorable weather and good facilities creates a great business environment for AGL Resources Inc.
