(NASDAQ:AAPL)<\/strong> is in discussion with Comcast Corp. (CMCSA) over the probable collaboration for streaming video service that would enable the content to be delivered on Apple&#8217;s set-top box.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Sharper Details Of The Talks<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the Wall Street Journal, although the proposal is in its early phase of discussion, but one of the main distinctive feature of this deal is that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) wants an exclusive flow of the traffic to its boxes, separate from that of the web traffic. This means that it needs an altogether separate bandwidth over the cable provider&#8217;s network so as to ensure superior quality for its TV service. While the deal is still limited to talks, but if an agreement is reached, then it will be first-of-its kind as the service would be a more of managed one, replicating the arrangement of phone services and cable video-on-demand.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL)<\/strong>&#8216;s proposal seems quite similar to the recent controversial arrangement that Netflix and Comcast had reached, aimed at securing efficient streaming. But, Apple&#8217;s proposed plan is definitely better than that as it is hoping to get a clear access to the congested part of the bridge, which will connect it directly to the subscribers. It is not that Apple is the first one to wish for such kind of deal, rather there were companies that had tried in the past to reach such sort of pact, but could not get success. One of the biggest example of which is Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC)&#8217;s set-top box called OnCue.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Regulatory Hurdle<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">No matter how perfect the plan is, but it will attract a close regulatory investigation, according to the experts. They note that if any such deal is confirmed, then it could take a centerstage of a debate, raising questions as to whether cable companies are fair in their conduct to establish such bandwidth for content providers. And, since both the parties involved here have dominance in their respective segment, therefore, a scrutiny from the Federal Communications Commission and the Justice Department could not be ruled out.
