Boston, MA 02\/24\/2014 (wallstreetpr) – Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE:COG)<\/b> released encouraging results last week that left investors to have a second look at oil and gas stocks. Also, the company\u2019s results revealed interesting strategy that could help other struggling oil and gas stocks. COG announced that its profit jumped 91 percent in the fourth quarter, largely due to sharp increase in production amid pricing decline. Gas producers have been struggling to make profits in market environment where prices are low but COG\u2019s latest results are testimony to the fact that anything is possible if the management can offset price troubles with higher production. COG boosted its production by 56 percent, resulting into profit $77.9 million, or $0.19 earnings per share. That compared with profit of $40.9 million, or $0.10 earnings per share realized last year. Excluding some items, the latest earnings per share of Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE:COG) comes to 18 cents, up from 14 cents in the previous earnings. Revenue for the just reported quarter was $487.5 million, a 32 percent uptick.<\/p>\n
Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA)<\/b> and Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX)<\/b> have finally found common ground. The companies are reported to have struck a deal that would allow Comcast to stream Netflix content. It is also reported that the agreement involves Netflix paying Comcast. In striking a deal with Comcast, Netflix has apparently bypassed third part companies to successfully ink am agreement. So then, direct connect to Netflix Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) through Comcast has just been made possible. And on more good news for Comcast investors is that if the company gets away with its bid to acquired Time Warner for about $45 billion goes through, it will become the giant broadband provider in the U.S.<\/p>\n
Newmont Mining Corp (NYSE:NEM)<\/b> has overtaken Coca-Cola Enterprises Inc (NYSE:CCE)<\/b> to assume the 327 position at the S&P 500 in largest market cap order. NEM\u2019s new position was helped by its mark cap rising over that of CCE.
