Boston, MA 02\/10\/2014 (wallstreetpr) –\u00a0Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG), Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR), Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT)<\/b> seem to be sharing more than rivalry; the three competitors have essentially come together in a bid of ensuring a Safer Internet Day (SID). Other partners who have joined the move include Linked-in, Sprint, Symantec and Trend Micro. The move to ensure a safer internet seems to have been prompted by recent revelations by Edward Snowden of government snooping into the network accompanied with security problems on personal data in the internet.<\/p>\n
Ensuring a safer internet<\/b><\/p>\n
Safety related issues over the internet has been a creeping issue in the recent past with parents trying their best to limit the exposure of their kids to the internet due to safety concerns. The US government and other European nations have been in constant battle with the internet guru companies in a bid of ensuring the safety of all people who have access to the internet service. It is not a secret that Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) and Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) have been receiving end of FTC and legal actions from the justice department.<\/p>\n
There is no doubt, that ensuring the internet is a safer place is a farfetched dream that is always sure to present lots of challenges. There is little that the big players in the industry can do but they should show the good will of doing their best if they are avoid the constant monitoring and litigation from the government.<\/p>\n
SID finding its way into the US <\/b><\/p>\n
Founded in Europe 11 years ago, Safer Internet Day is finally getting its way into the US. This was essentially after Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano signed a joined agreement with European commission Vice president Nellie Kroes<\/p>\n
This year SID event will play host to an a live webcast event in Washington DC with the likes of Sen. Charles Schumer and a panel of student leaders in attendance. The event will also pay host to top dignitaries and executives from Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) (Instagram), Google Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOG) (Youtube), Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO)<\/b> (Tumblr) and Twitter Inc. (NYSE:TWTR). The event will be co moderated by Anne Collier.<\/p>\n
The National Cable telecommunications Association Auditorium on Capitol Hill willplay host to the event with a twitter hashtag #SID2014<\/p>\n
