The said possible settlement would resolve about 3,800 cases filed against the company by women contesting the safety of the contraceptive.\u00a0 Yet, MRK could walk out of the deal if more than 5 percent of the plaintiffs turn down the offer. In others, for the settlement to stand, at least 95 percent of plaintiffs should give it a node. Judge Brian Martinotti gave preliminary approval to the settlement. At the center of the claims is that NuvaRing has high risk of causing heart attack on women who use it. By most measures, Merck & Co., Inc. (NYSE:MRK)\u2019s possible $100 million settlement is cheaper than what its competitors paid sometime back offer similar accusations. For example Bayer AG (BAYN) paid more than $1.6 billion last year to settle claims over Yasmina and Yaz birth control pills.<\/p>\n
Cemex SAB de CV (ADR) (NYSE:CX)<\/b> has been identified to excavate the reservoir site at MckKay Point, near Woodlake and Lemon Cove where a new reservoir has been proposed. The reservoir will provide potential power generation, flood control and water storage. The company will then sell the cement-making materials. The owners of the project will receive a royalty on the same of the materials, for which they hope the project should be finally feasible. The excavation for the new reservoir is expected to begin early 2015 and should run through to $2030.
