{"id":143755,"date":"2026-08-22T16:06:14","date_gmt":"2026-08-22T20:06:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cablemanpro.com\/wallstreetpr\/nashville-hospital-medication-error-leaves-at-least-1-patient-paralyzed-after-routine-surgery-3-others-hurt-143755"},"modified":"2026-08-22T16:06:14","modified_gmt":"2026-08-22T20:06:14","slug":"nashville-hospital-medication-error-leaves-at-least-1-patient-paralyzed-after-routine-surgery-3-others-hurt","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cablemanpro.com\/wallstreetpr\/nashville-hospital-medication-error-leaves-at-least-1-patient-paralyzed-after-routine-surgery-3-others-hurt-143755","title":{"rendered":"Nashville hospital medication error leaves at least 1 patient paralyzed after routine surgery, 3 others hurt"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<p>Four people who went in for routine joint replacement surgeries at a hospital in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/us-regions\/southeast\/tennessee\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Nashville<\/a> allegedly had the wrong drug injected into their spine, leaving at least one woman paralyzed, according to her family.<\/p>\n<p>Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown in Nashville on Friday acknowledged an alleged &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/category\/health\/healthy-living\/medications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">medication error<\/a>&#8221; in their pharmacy that led to the patients being injected with potassium phosphate instead of a regular anesthetic and experiencing &#8220;adverse health reactions,&#8221; according to multiple reports.<\/p>\n<p>The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed to Fox News Digital on Saturday that it is investigating the incident after receiving information Friday from the Tennessee Healthcare Facilities Commission.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/us\/florida-doctor-charged-after-allegedly-removing-wrong-organ-during-surgery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>FLORIDA DOCTOR CHARGED AFTER ALLEGEDLY REMOVING WRONG ORGAN DURING SURGERY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The joint replacement went wonderful. Her knee is great. The rest of her is not,&#8221; Kristina Dorton told WKRN-TV, saying that her mother-in-law was left paralyzed. &#8220;It was supposed to be the anesthetic. It was supposed to be Bupivacaine, and it was potassium, and we don\u2019t know what quantity,&#8221; Dorton said.<\/p>\n<p>Dorton said her mother-in-law currently has no feeling from her breastbone down.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/us\/iowa-woman-died-hernia-repair-nurses-dismissed-painful-post-surgery-symptoms-lawsuit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>IOWA WOMAN DIED FOLLOWING HERNIA REPAIR AFTER NURSES DISMISSED PAINFUL POST-SURGERY SYMPTOMS: LAWSUIT<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We don\u2019t know <a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/us\/woman-wins-massive-settlement-bladder-mistakenly-removed-surgery-benign-cyst\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">what recovery looks like<\/a> or if there is recovery,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>The other three patients allegedly suffered serious complications from the mix-up, with CBS News reporting that a second patient is also saying they were left paralyzed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/health\/organ-harvesting-began-while-patients-showed-signs-life-federal-investigation-finds\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>ORGAN HARVESTING BEGAN WHILE PATIENTS STILL SHOWED \u2018SIGNS OF LIFE,\u2019 FEDERAL INVESTIGATION FINDS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Shubhada Jagasia, president &amp; CEO of the hospital, said in a statement earlier this week, per WSMV, &#8220;Our hearts are with the four patients and their families impacted by this event. On behalf of our leadership and care teams, I am deeply sorry for the harm caused to our patients. We have met directly with each of the families to express our deep support, connected them with spiritual care teams, and ensured they have access to all appropriate resources and ongoing care needed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Jagasia continued, &#8220;Providing safe, high-quality care is at the core of everything we do, and any gap in meeting that standard receives our immediate, uncompromising attention. The day of the event, we self-reported to state regulators and launched a thorough investigation. We identified the cause and have implemented corrective safeguards.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She added that the hospital\u2019s clinical teams are actively using enhanced safety protocols to &#8220;ensure the highest level of safety at Midtown.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>But Dorton told WKRN that the treatment to help her mother-in-law recover isn\u2019t working.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/us\/texas-dentist-accused-fatal-mistakes-4-year-old-dies-dental-procedure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><strong>TEXAS DENTIST ACCUSED OF FATAL MISTAKES AFTER 4-YEAR-OLD DIES DURING DENTAL PROCEDURE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is life-changing.
