Los Angeles Sparks star Cameron Brink was helped off the court Thursday night in an 85-81 loss to the New York Liberty<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With New York leading 69-62 midway through the fourth quarter, Brink collided with Liberty forward Breanna Stewart<\/a> as Stewart’s arm made contact with Brink’s midsection.<\/p>\n

Brink then collapsed to the floor and grabbed her abdomen as she appeared to cry out in pain and remained in a crouched position for several minutes following the incident.<\/p>\n

Stewart was assessed an offensive foul while Brink did not return for the rest of the game, finishing with nine points, seven rebounds, and three blocks in 19 minutes.<\/p>\n

Brink is no stranger to the injury bug, as this is just the latest in a series of knocks the Sparks center has taken recently.<\/p>\n

Back in June, Brink sprained her ankle in a game against the Golden State Valkyries<\/a>, which caused her to miss a month of play before returning in mid July.<\/p>\n

Her rookie season was plagued with similarly bad injury luck, as the former No. 2 overall pick tore her ACL<\/a> in 2024 after starting just 15 games for Los Angeles, requiring season-ending surgery.<\/p>\n

That ACL injury could have led to a sluggish 2025 season for Brink, in which the Sparks center averaged around five points and four rebounds while playing only 13 minutes a night.<\/p>\n

The Sparks can’t afford another long-term injury to a player they tapped as a franchise cornerstone just two seasons ago, and with the loss to the Liberty on Thursday night, Los Angeles dropped to 12-21 on the season.<\/p>\n

A healthy Brink would be a key piece in helping right the ship in Southern California, but with the Sparks seven games out of a playoff spot and just over a month left to go in the regular season, it might be wise to shut her down to have her healthy for next season.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
