Look, sometimes you just really need to go to Cabela’s<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And when the store is 50 miles away, you have two options: get in the car and sit in traffic like a schmuck, or fire up the helicopter<\/a> and be there in minutes.<\/p>\n

Dennis Pipping chose the helicopter.<\/p>\n

The 69-year-old Wisconsin<\/a> pilot flew from Rosendale to the Cabela\u2019s in Richfield on Saturday evening, landing in a mostly empty section of the store\u2019s parking lot so he could pick up some bowhunting supplies.<\/p>\n

Naturally, some busybody saw a helicopter descend outside Cabela\u2019s and called the police.<\/p>\n

Washington County sheriff\u2019s deputies arrived to investigate the unusual landing, only to discover there was no emergency, no dramatic getaway and no criminal activity.<\/p>\n

Nothing to see here. Just a man who values his time and urgently needed a fresh pack of broadheads.<\/p>\n

“So I asked my neighbor friend if he wanted to take a ride to Cabela\u2019s to get some shopping done,” Pipping said.<\/p>\n

Pipping, who has decades of flying experience, said he called the store before making the approximately 20-minute flight. He also circled the parking lot beforehand to make sure he had enough room to land safely.<\/p>\n

When asked why he decided to fly rather than make the roughly 45-minute drive, Pipping responded with a question of his own.<\/p>\n

“Why would you drive if you can fly there in a helicopter?” he said.<\/p>\n

The man has a point.<\/p>\n

Pipping said there were no vehicles near the far end of the massive parking lot, allowing him to land, head inside and complete his shopping without incident.<\/p>\n

By the time he returned, however, a deputy was waiting to check out the aircraft.<\/p>\n

Pipping was properly licensed, had landed safely and complied with applicable Federal Aviation Administration regulations<\/a>. He was not arrested or cited.<\/p>\n

The sheriff\u2019s office ultimately described the incident as a “unique way to make a shopping trip.”<\/p>\n
