A person believed to be Elijah Bieniemy, the son of Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> offensive coordinator Eric, called police two days before he allegedly shot his mother saying he could not access his weapons from “his parents.”<\/p>\n

According to The Athletic, a 27-year-old man called from the family’s home, where the shooting took place, saying “his parents are withholding his weapons and that he\u2019s a certified UFC<\/a> fighter so now he feels like he cannot defend himself.”<\/p>\n

The caller “kept rambling on about also having his (CPR) license and what if he cannot help,” the outlet said<\/a>, citing an incident report.<\/p>\n

“[H]is parents told him he must give them his firearms if he wants to keep living in the home \u2014 and that he could have them back when he needed them,” the report continued. He added his parents “refuse to give (him) his firearms back when he tries to go to the range to use them.”<\/p>\n

Two days later, Mia Bieniemy was hospitalized with gunshot wounds.<\/p>\n

Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Leah Pau said that police arrived at a home located on the 20000 block of Northpark Drive in Ashburn, Virginia, on the evening of July 26 and arrested the couple’s 27-year-old son, Elijah Zion Bieniemy. Mia was originally in stable condition but has since been transferred out of ICU.<\/p>\n

He was arrested on charges of malicious wounding, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, and discharge of a firearm inside a dwelling, according to a press release by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

Elijah was also transported to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center where he is being held without bond.<\/p>\n

Elijah won\u2019t make a court appearance until he has completed a mental health competency evaluation, court records show. Court filings reported that he “appears to suffer from significant mental health issues” and “does not appear able to assist in his own defense at the present time.”<\/p>\n

As offensive coordinator in Kansas City from 2018-22, Bieniemy oversaw one of the league’s most productive offenses to become an AFC stalwart, winning two Super Bowls in his tenure.<\/p>\n

Bieniemy, 56, returned to the Chiefs this year as their offensive coordinator after spending time with the Washington Commanders<\/a>, Chicago Bears and UCLA’s football program.<\/p>\n
