Visitors looking for thrills at a popular boardwalk got more than they bargained for after a ride unexpectedly ground to a halt, forcing passengers to wait in a situation few would want to find themselves in.<\/p>\n

Video shared<\/a> on Instagram appears to show the Wipe Out ride at the Ocean City Boardwalk<\/a> stopped mid-cycle with riders suspended upside down as concerned spectators gathered below.<\/p>\n

In the clip, women can be heard yelling as one bystander tries to reassure those trapped on the ride.<\/p>\n

The video quickly sparked a wave of reactions on social media<\/a>, with many viewers expressing relief that the ride’s safety restraints appeared to do their job despite the frightening ordeal.<\/p>\n

“On a positive note: whoever designed the safety harnesses should get a MASSIVE raise,” one Instagram user wrote.<\/p>\n

Others said the incident reminded them of similar experiences<\/a>.<\/p>\n

It was not immediately clear what caused the apparent malfunction<\/a>, how long riders remained suspended, or whether anyone was injured.<\/p>\n

Fox News Digital has reached out to the Ocean City Fire Department<\/a>, Ocean City Police Department, the ride’s operator and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs for comment.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
