A New York police official is being accused of serving as the getaway driver for her son in an apparent gang shooting in New York City<\/a>, the New York Post reported Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Police sources told the Post<\/a> that Jennifer Lackard, a deputy police commissioner with the Mount Vernon Police Department, was arrested along with her son, Chase Lackard, 20, at their home Tuesday morning. Authorities said Chase was charged with shooting at rival gang members near the Bronx Criminal Court in late June.<\/p>\n

Sources told the Post that Chase ran to his mother in her car after the shooting, and she sped off.<\/p>\n

No one was injured in the shooting.<\/p>\n

Both the mother and son have been charged with attempted murder<\/a>, attempted assault, criminal possession of a firearm, conspiracy and reckless endangerment.<\/p>\n

The Mount Vernon Police Department said Tuesday that Lackard had been terminated effectively immediately.<\/p>\n

“The allegations are unrelated to her duties with the Mount Vernon Police Department and do not stem from any conduct associated with the Department or the performance of her official responsibilities,” the department wrote on social media.<\/p>\n

The incident was far from Chase’s first run-in with law enforcement. He was shot by police<\/a> in 2024 after allegedly wielding a gun during an argument.<\/p>\n

He was also shot once before in 2023 by three other youths during a dispute on a bus. Chase is allegedly a member of the “Slutty Gang,” according to the Post.<\/p>\n

He reportedly demanded to know what gang the other youths belonged to and then attempted to drag one of them off the bus before being shot in the chest.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
