Bryson DeChambeau\u2019s two-stroke penalty at the 2026 Open Championship was one of the most talked-about incidents on the course throughout the tournament, and it continues to make headlines after a recent report mentioned he wanted to get President Donald Trump<\/a> involved.<\/p>\n

DeChambeau, who shares a close friendship with Trump, especially after playing golf together on the LIV Golf star\u2019s YouTube channel, was docked two strokes during his second round<\/a> after he was seen stomping on tall grass near his ball, which is an illegal move.<\/p>\n

Rory McIlroy claimed that DeChambeau was holding the final major of the golf season hostage after refusing to sign his second-round scorecard after finishing.<\/p>\n

Now, golf writer Geoff Shackelford is reporting DeChambeau wanted to get Trump involved.<\/p>\n

“Sources with knowledge of the thirty-minute discussion said DeChambeau wanted the President to join a campaign against the eventual two-stroke penalty that ultimately dropped his score from 66 to 68,” Shackelford wrote. “The request came after DeChambeau had already been given a rare bit of special dispensation to return to the scene where he\u2019s stomped around tall fescue rough in his backswing.”<\/p>\n

Trump reportedly denied DeChambeau\u2019s request to step in. The White House<\/a> has not immediately responded to a request for comment by Fox News Digital.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no telling what DeChambeau may have thought Trump could do, but after what occurred in the FIFA World Cup<\/a> with Team USA, perhaps he was hoping for a similar result.<\/p>\n

Trump contacted FIFA president Gianni Infantino, yet another close friend, to ask about a review of the red card given to Folarin Balogun \u2013 Team USA\u2019s star striker throughout the tournament. Balogun\u2019s controversial red card would\u2019ve had him sidelined for the Round of 16 against Belgium, but FIFA suspended the red card, allowing him to play.<\/p>\n

It ultimately made no difference, as Belgium handed the U.S. a 4-1 defeat to knock the host country out of the tournament earlier this month.<\/p>\n

DeChambeau finished tied for 14th place at 4-under for the tournament at Royal Birkdale this past weekend. New Zealand\u2019s Ryan Fox<\/a> secured his first-ever major championship after birdying his final hole to beat out American Cameron Young by one stroke with a 10-under tournament finish.<\/p>\n
