This happened after the bank attained its profitability targets and shares surged just as the CEO and his management team had promised investors.<\/p>\n
As a result of the Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS)\u2019s better than expected performance in 2013, shares of the stock managed to rise 64 percent, putting it among the 10 best performing investment banks in the world. The management team is credited for delivering on their promise to improve margins and cut costs.<\/p>\n
CEO compensation package<\/strong><\/p>\n According to SEC filing, Mr. Gorman received about $5.06 million in stock bonus, nearly doubling the equity award to the CEO in the previous year. The CEO was also awarded with $1.5 million salary, up from $800,000 that he received in 2012. Several long-term benefits were also declared for the CEO after the investment bank attained and exceeded the set targets. More details about this new compensation package for the CEO will be revealed later this year.<\/p>\n Challenge to profit<\/b><\/p>\n Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS), like most other U.S. banks, is dogged by legal challenges which eat into its profits. Nonetheless, the company is moving fast to deal with its legal woes to ensure that the future is positively secured.<\/p>\n Looking at the recently released performance result, the bank managed to exceed Wall Street revenue expectations. Yet the bank\u2019s $1.2 billion legal bill trimmed profits, leading to the share losing 5 percent of its value since January 17.<\/p>\n What\u2019s next?<\/b><\/p>\n Morgan Stanley (NYSE:MS) is seeking speedy recovery of its overall performance through wealth management. Increased focus on this business has contributed hugely to the bank\u2019s transformation.<\/p>\n The fourth quarter revenue from wealth management division increased 12 percent to about $3.73 billion year over year, thus leading to pre-tax profit of $709 million. And even though the bank reduced its land-based operation locations by 45, the wealth management division still managed to see client asset increase of 13 percent.<\/p>\n All these suggest strong prospects in this division.
