A famed jockey<\/a> is suffering from serious injuries after being involved in a car wreck.<\/p>\n

Frankie Dettori was involved in a “road traffic accident<\/a>” in Newmarket, England, on Wednesday night, his team announced on social media.<\/p>\n

The crash resulted in Dettori suffering from “several broken ribs and a broken thumb.”<\/p>\n

“Another vehicle struck the rear passenger side of the car Frankie was driving, causing it to spin and flip…” the social media post said<\/a>, adding that he was then taken to the hospital. “His injuries are still being assessed, and he remains in hospital for further observation.<\/p>\n

“Frankie would like to thank the emergency services who attended the scene, together with the doctors, nurses and wider medical team caring for him. His focus is now on resting and recovering. No further comment will be made until there is a meaningful update.”<\/p>\n

The Sun said Dettori’s vehicle wound up upside down, although no arrests were made.<\/p>\n

The Italian jockey, who famously went through the card with seven winners in seven races at Ascot in September 1996, has amassed more than 3,350 victories in his career, mostly in England<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dettori retired as a jockey after taking some rides in Brazil following a spell racing in the United States, Britain’s PA news agency reported. Before that, he was based in England for more than three decades.<\/p>\n

He has signed up for this year\u2019s Leger Legends race at Doncaster in September. It would be his first ride in Britain since 2023.<\/p>\n
