Multiple children were shot over the weekend after gunfire broke out near a recreational public pool in Stuttgart, Arkansas<\/a>, authorities said.<\/p>\n

Officers responded Saturday just before 5 p.m. local time to reports of shots fired at John Cain Aquatic Center, the Stuttgart Police Department<\/a> said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Three children suffered gunshot wounds and were rushed to a local hospital, according to police. One child suffered a gunshot wound to the chest, though police did not elaborate on the injuries of the other two children who were shot.<\/p>\n

A suspect was taken into custody within minutes of the incident with help from the Arkansas County Sheriff’s Office, police said in a social media post.<\/p>\n

“At this time, no names will be released, as all parties involved are juveniles,” the department noted.<\/p>\n

In a statement on Facebook<\/a>, the John Cain Aquatic Center\u00a0said the aquatic center will be closed “until further notice.”<\/p>\n

It is unclear what led to the shooting<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Police said the investigation remains active, and officers are continuing to gather information regarding the circumstances surrounding the incident.<\/p>\n

Stuttgart police said the shooting left the department “deeply saddened.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their families, and every person affected by this tragic incident,” the police statement said. “We remain committed to thoroughly investigating this case and ensuring accountability for those responsible.”<\/p>\n

The Stuttgart Police Department, Arkansas County Sheriff’s Office, Arkansas State Police and Stuttgart Parks Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s requests for comment.<\/p>\n

Stuttgart is a small town in eastern Arkansas, about an hour southeast of Little Rock.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
