A lot of transfer formalities have been completed and even regulatory approval of the European Community where Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) is registered has been secured. The obvious challenge to this deal is the tax dispute in India.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) is being by the Indian tax authorities accused of holding billions of dollars in unpaid taxes. This has sparked fears that transfer of its Indian manufacturing facility to\u00a0Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) could be delayed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But beyond the Indian tax issue, there is a fresh challenge coming ahead for Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK). The company had hoped that it would be able to fully monetize its technology segment which deals with licensing of patents to other tech manufacturers. However, this may not be easy, or at least possible in China where companies which buy patent from Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) are reported to be asking the government to ensure that they are not hit with huge patent fees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Opposition in China<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">ZTE Corp and Huawei Technologies are the two big tech companies in China that are reported to be asking the Ministry of Commerce to ensure that the sale of Nokia handset division does not result in rise of patent licensing fees afterwards.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) license its technologies to different manufacturers and this adds to its overall revenue. The company had indicated that it would embark on aggressive monetization of its technologies after closing the $7.2 billion deal with software gorilla Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT). This sounded like the company would increase the fees that it charges for its technology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Turnaround<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The reason behind selling its handset division is that Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) wanted to reduce its losses and also spend the resulting amount in the development of its remaining businesses which include NSN, Nokia HERE and Nokia Technologies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The company needs an immediate turnaround to return value to patient investors who have remained with it all through its hard moments.
