A Texas<\/a> teenager was fighting for his life as a shark bit him while boating with his father on Memorial Day weekend.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The incident unfolded around 3:15 p.m. on Monday, when authorities with the Galveston County Sheriff\u2019s Office contacted the U.S. Coast Guard regarding reports that a 17-year-old boy had been bitten by a shark off the coast of Galveston Island, according to<\/u><\/a> ABC 13.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The teenage victim, his father and a third individual were aboard a boat roughly two hours offshore when the bite occurred, FOX 61 reported<\/u><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Authorities said that the teen was bitten by the shark while trying to pull it onto the boat, according to ABC 13.<\/p>\n

The boy\u2019s father immediately applied a tourniquet to the wound<\/a> and began navigating toward the Galveston Yacht Basin when the vessel became disabled near the jetties in the Gulf, FOX 61 reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The disabled boat reportedly prompted an emergency response<\/a> from the Coast Guard, with rescue crews applying a second tourniquet to mitigate the teen\u2019s bleeding before transporting him back to land.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not revealed what caused the boat to become disabled or how the shark was brought onto the vessel.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The victim was conscious upon arriving back on shore and subsequently taken to the University of Texas Medical Branch for medical treatment<\/a>, ABC 13 reported.<\/p>\n

Authorities have not released details regarding the extent of the teen\u2019s injuries or the shark species<\/a> involved in the incident.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The U.S. Coast Guard and Galveston County Sheriff\u2019s Office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital\u2019s request for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
