What is the issue?<\/b><\/p>\n
Some of the recent studies have pointed out that Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is losing its customer base and that teens are deserting Facebook. While Facebook is yet to come out with definitive statistics to prove or disprove this, analysts and in fact everybody are jumping on the band wagon. Teens are very fickle and one of the most prominent reasons for their \u2018unliking\u2019 Facebook is the reported presence of their parents. The second and most obvious reason is now they are spoilt for choices. Many companies now offer social media platforms and they all come with a new twist.<\/p>\n
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) seems to be taking this in its stride. In fact, this may also be a blessing in disguise as teens do not make up a strong market for advertisers. And these matters for any company in the social media platform as their principle source of income are the advertisers. With a mature population, Facebook may be able to attract the right advertisers and generate sufficient revenues and profits.<\/p>\n
The changing demographic profile:<\/b><\/p>\n
Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB) is also looking at new markets in order to expand. Facebook ended the year 2013 with 728 million daily users, a growth of 25% over the previous year. The company attracted 2 million daily users from North America but 20 million from other regions in the last quarter. This shows the strength of the company. While newbies on the block are busy attracting users from North America and other western countries, Facebook appears to have moved from the traditional base of social media platforms. While a major chunk of revenues are still generated from the western countries, it will not be surprising that non-western countries manage to contribute more to the balance sheet.<\/p>\n
