(NASDAQ:AAPL) and China Mobile (CHL). A research report released this week says that pre-order for iPhone 5C\/5S on China Mobile for the first two days was lower than what the other carriers offering the smartphones registered over the same duration in September.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The two companies announced an offering deal on December 22, a few days behind the earlier announced-date of December 18. The deal allows China Mobile to offer iPhone 5C and 5S to its more than 760 million subscribers.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is a mutual benefit deal for the two companies in the sense that while Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) will enjoy exposure to wider market, China Mobile Ltd. (ADR) (NYSE:CHL) will not have to worry about rivals winning high-end customers against it as it has been in the past several months since the new line of iPhones launched in the market.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Underwhelming orders<\/b><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the first two days of iPhone offering on China Mobile, the pre-orders reached about 100,000 for contract smartphones. This compares with 150,000 pre-orders that were registered on China China Telecom (CHA) and 120,000 pre-orders that were registered on Unicon (CHU) (CHA) when iPhone 5C and 5S launched on the networks in September.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For the unlocked iPhones, China Mobile noted 150,000 pre-orders on the first day, this compares to between 400,000 and 500,000 pre-orders for the same category when iPhone 5S launched in China back in September.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The comparison between performance of iPhones 5C and 5S on China Mobile and that of Unicon and China Telecom may well not necessarily suggest that things are going to be tough for Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) and China Mobile in the deal.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, it issues a reality check that Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) needs to do more than just seeking distribution allies among carriers in China. The company has to up its advertisement and product promotion efforts in order to regain ground in the market where its fortunes have been noted to be waning.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">China Mobile starts official sale of iPhone 5C and 5S on January 17. This deal is expected boost the sale of iPhone series in China up to 2.9 million per month in the first quarter of fiscal 2014. Apple Inc.
