First and foremost, the big announcement was that it no longer owes Fed the bailout dollar it received at its hour of need around four years ago. Then before long, the company announced that when its current Chief Executive Officer Daniel Akerson retires next year, it will install Mary Barra as the new CEO.<\/p>\n
Promoting Barra to the CEO position hit news headlines across the globe as GM became the first major automaker to have a woman CEO. Also, the company joined the few Fortune 500 companies that are headed by women. While the company\u2019s board has insisted that Barra\u2019s promotion has nothing to do with her gender, but instead her ability, the news has excited the female community worldwide.<\/p>\n
In business, this excitement can be converted into money if women could be made to buy more of GM cars because they are produced by \u2018one of their own\u2019.\u00a0 Anyway, what\u2019s new is that GM has announced price adjustment for all its vehicle models in India.<\/p>\n
General Motors India will now charge Rs 10,000 across all its models on top of what it is presently charging. These price hikes will take effect starting January next year.<\/p>\n
By raising the price of its vehicle at a time when competitor Tesla Motors Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) just announced that it could enter the mainstream vehicle market as early as 2016 sparks a lot of speculations. Looking at what Tesla has been doing and planning of late, it seems the all-electric car maker is ready for auto pricing war with the existing giants like GM.<\/p>\n
Tesla announced that its mass market car will start at $30,000 and this means that General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) could be fixing itself against Tesla by announcing price hikes. Looking at the reason which the company gives for the announced hikes in India, it is very clear that similar hikes are coming soon to other markets.
