President Donald Trump<\/a> said the U.S. hasn\u2019t “been challenged by China” on the conflict with Iran, describing leader Xi Jinping as being “very respectful” with\u00a0tensions remaining high over the Strait of Hormuz.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump made the remark Tuesday at the White House<\/a> ahead of his visit next week to Beijing to meet Xi in person.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I\u00a0have\u00a0a very good\u00a0relationship with President Xi. You know, I find him to be a tremendous guy, and we get along well. And you see how we\u00a0do,” Trump told reporters when asked about what he hopes to achieve with Xi in relation to Iran. “We do a lot of business with China and making a lot of money.\u00a0We’re\u00a0making a lot of money.\u00a0It’s\u00a0different than it used to be, but\u00a0I’ll\u00a0be talking about —\u00a0that’ll\u00a0be one subject.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“But\u00a0he’s\u00a0been\u00a0very nice\u00a0about this. You know, in all fairness, he gets\u00a0like,\u00a060% of his oil from Hormuz. And\u00a0he’s\u00a0been,\u00a0I think\u00a0he’s\u00a0been very respectful,” Trump added. “We\u00a0haven’t\u00a0been challenged by China. They\u00a0don’t\u00a0challenge us.\u00a0And he\u00a0wouldn’t\u00a0do that. I\u00a0don’t\u00a0think\u00a0he’d\u00a0do that because of me.\u00a0But,\u00a0I think\u00a0he’s\u00a0been very respectful.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump said the Iranian regime is “trying to survive,” but they won\u2019t be successful if they don\u2019t make a deal with the U.S.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Oh, they don’t make a deal? They won’t be successful. They’ll go very quickly and methodically. Believe me, it’ll be very easy,” Trump continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The president announced in March that the meeting with Xi in Beijing will happen on May 14-15.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“First Lady Melania and I will also host President Xi and Madame Peng for a reciprocal visit in Washington, D.C.,\u00a0at a later date, this year. Our Representatives are\u00a0finalizing\u00a0preparations for these Historic Visits. I look very much forward to spending time with President Xi in what will be, I am sure, a Monumental Event,” Trump wrote on Truth Social.<\/p>\n

When asked Tuesday about U.S. military ships coming under fire<\/a> in the Strait of Hormuz — and what it would take for Iran to violate the ongoing ceasefire — Trump said, “Well,\u00a0you’ll\u00a0find out, because\u00a0I’ll\u00a0let you know.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“They know what to do… and they know what not to do, more importantly, actually,” Trump added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
