A Utah teenager<\/a> found dead more than 50 years ago has been named as yet another victim of notorious serial killer Ted Bundy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Authorities said Wednesday that DNA helped link Bundy to the killing of Laura Ann Aime. The 17-year-old vanished after leaving a Halloween party to buy cigarettes on Oct. 31, 1974, according to<\/u><\/a> KTVX.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her body was discovered by hikers in an embankment near American Fork Canyon road just days later.<\/p>\n

“Laura didn\u2019t live with the family at the time,” Aime\u2019s niece, Tara Stucki, told the outlet last year. “She was kind of a free spirit and was off with friends at the time.”<\/p>\n

Investigators determined Aime had been raped, strangled and murdered, KTVX reported.<\/p>\n

For several decades, authorities pointed to Bundy as the prime suspect in Aime\u2019s death, noting he began studying law at the University of Utah just two months before her disappearance.<\/p>\n

Bundy had allegedly<\/a> “approached [Aime] multiple times before” and “kind of stalked her before taking her,” Stucki told KTVX.<\/p>\n

However, Bundy reportedly failed to recall if Aime was among his victims while confessing to several homicides throughout Utah.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The mystery surrounding Aime\u2019s death lay dormant for 51 years, until investigators with the Utah County Sheriff\u2019s Office<\/a> used new DNA technology to link Bundy to Aime\u2019s killing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Investigators obtained a male DNA profile<\/a> using bodily fluids found on Aime\u2019s remains following recent testing, KTVX reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The genetic profile was reportedly input into the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), a national DNA database, which provided a match in Florida<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Following additional analysis, investigators were able to link the DNA profile to Bundy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Aime is believed to be Bundy\u2019s third victim in Utah<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Utah County Sheriff\u2019s Office has since shared the DNA profile with other departments in hopes of finding more of Bundy\u2019s victims, with authorities reportedly adding they believe the development will provide a resolution to another cold case \u2013 though no additional details were provided.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bundy has long been linked to the killings of several women in Florida, Utah, Colorado, Oregon and Washington from 1974 to 1978.<\/p>\n

He previously confessed to a total of 28 murders, but investigators believe he could be responsible for hundreds of killings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bundy was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of two Florida college students<\/a> in 1979, and received another death sentence in 1980 for the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl.<\/p>\n

He was executed by Florida\u2019s electric chair in 1989.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I know that she would be really happy to know that [her case] has been closed,” Michelle Impala, Aime\u2019s younger sister, said Wednesday, according to KTVX.<\/p>\n

“And just to know that Ted Bundy is, like, gnashing his teeth in hell is really \u2013 I don\u2019t know. I hate to think of people doing that, but with him and a few other people in the world, that\u2019s what they deserve.”<\/p>\n

The Utah County Sheriff\u2019s Office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital\u2019s request for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
