While many superintendents seek guidance earlier from the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction (OSPI) on whether to make a formal report, educators can avoid public scrutiny by voluntarily surrendering their licenses and resigning, the board noted.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by Investigate West this month found that 157 teachers \u2014 nearly 45% of those added to the <a href=\"https:\/\/ospi.k12.wa.us\/educator-support\/investigations\/disciplinary-action-notices\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">OSPI&#8217;s Disciplinary Action Notices<\/a> database since 2015 \u2014 voluntarily surrendered their licenses, which can keep their disciplinary files out of the state&#8217;s public-facing records.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/they-bully-silence-elementary-teacher-takes-state-union-over-parental-rights-ballot-measure\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>\u2018THEY BULLY SILENCE\u2019: ELEMENTARY TEACHER TAKES ON STATE UNION OVER PARENTAL RIGHTS BALLOT MEASURE.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While Washington leads other states in providing the names of teachers who&#8217;ve faced disciplinary action, the report said, gaps for accountability still remain.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.investigatewest.org\/these-washington-educators-have-lost-or-surrendered-their-teaching-license-for-alleged-misconduct\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">InvestigateWest<\/a> reported that &#8220;of the 349 teachers added to the state\u2019s database from 2015-2025 for having their license revoked, suspended or voluntarily surrendered, 160 teachers \u2014 or approximately 46% of all cases \u2014 involve sexual misconduct.&#8221; That figure is likely an undercount because some cases were categorized differently in the system, the report said.<\/p>\n<p>InvestigateWest also reported that in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/us\/seattle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seattle Public Schools<\/a>, 11 of the 15 educators recorded in the database since 2015 voluntarily surrendered their licenses.<\/p>\n<p>The Seattle Times editorial board <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/politics\/state-and-local\/legislation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">urged lawmaker<\/a>s to address the issue in the 2027 legislative session, arguing the current framework protects predators in schools.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/washington-swimmer-takes-state-government-says-girls-shouldnt-pressured-undress-around-boys\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>WASHINGTON SWIMMER TAKES ON STATE GOVERNMENT, SAYS GIRLS SHOULDN&#8217;T BE PRESSURED TO UNDRESS AROUND BOYS<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Washington State Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, which oversees the state\u2019s misconduct database, sent <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox News Digital<\/a> a statement.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Washington state has robust systems in place for protecting students from potential educator misconduct, including sexual misconduct.
