House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La.,<\/u><\/a> said the Democratic Party\u2019s “Trump Derangement Syndrome” is on “full display” Tuesday as Democrats are planning to attend several counter-State of the Union events.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“This evening, the entire country will hear an update on the full scope of President Trump’s transformational and historic first year back in office. The results speak for themselves. Why does he have so much to talk about? Because inflation is down, wages are\u00a0up,\u00a0investment is booming. The GDP\u00a0is exceeding\u00a0every expectation,” Johnson said during the House GOP leadership\u2019s weekly press conference.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“Democrats, meanwhile, are going to host\u00a0\u2014 count them\u00a0\u2014 five separate counter events, rallies<\/u><\/a> of some sort, they call them,\u00a0in lieu of tonight’s address,” Johnson said. “For all of these theatrics, it doesn’t matter how many little gatherings they have or where they stand or how high the volume is on the microphones, they have nothing to\u00a0offer, nothing but their TDS\u00a0agenda, the Trump Derangement Syndrome, and it’s on full display.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

“All they can say, all they can tell you about, is how they oppose President Trump and thwart his agenda and shut down the government and protest everything from the president’s joint address to basic immigration enforcement, and they obstruct any meaningful progress for the sake of obstruction,” Johnson added.<\/p>\n

The House speaker said it\u2019s the “same\u00a0tired\u00a0playbook” that Democrats have been running for a decade now.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It’s\u00a0shameful that they would boycott an address. We\u00a0don’t\u00a0do that. Republicans\u00a0don’t\u00a0do that,” Johnson said. “It\u00a0doesn’t\u00a0matter if\u00a0there’s\u00a0a president from the opposing party. We\u00a0don’t\u00a0skip out. Our constituents want and need us to be here.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

One of the counter-events<\/a> being held Tuesday night is the “People\u2019s State of the Union” near the Lincoln Memorial.<\/p>\n

The event, described as a rally, is organized by MeidasTouch and MoveOn Civic Action, a pair of left-leaning media and activist groups, and will focus on criticisms of Trump\u2019s first year back in office.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The event is expected to draw Sens, Ed Markey, D-Mass., Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., Chris Murphy, D-Conn., Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., and Tina Smith, D-Minn.<\/p>\n

Other Democrats will be attending the “State of the Swamp” event at the National Press Club, according to The Hill.\u00a0<\/p>\n
