Every four years, Americans fall in love with a fantasy. A new president will change the federal deficit.<\/p>\n

Republicans promise growth will outrun the debt.<\/p>\n

Democrats promise taxes on the rich will fix it.<\/p>\n

And the U.S. Debt Clock<\/a> keeps spinning like a Vegas slot machine that only pays out in red ink.<\/p>\n

THE ECONOMIC POLICIES SHAPING TRUMP\u2019S RETURN TO THE WHITE HOUSE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

As of 2026, the United States owes roughly\u00a0$38.5 trillion\u00a0and it\u2019s climbing about\u00a0$8 billion per day. The net interest payments on the debt officially exceed our annual defense budget.<\/p>\n

We\u2019re not arguing politics anymore. We\u2019re arguing arithmetic.<\/p>\n

The Trump Plan: Growth + Tariffs + Tax Cuts<\/strong><\/p>\n

Let\u2019s be fair: Trump\u2019s economic philosophy has been consistent since he started campaigning.<\/p>\n

Extend tax cuts<\/a> \u2014 no tax on tips, overtime, or Social Security.<\/p>\n

Add tariff revenue \u2014 now a political and legal battle.<\/p>\n

Shrink bureaucracy \u2014 started with DOGE.<\/p>\n

Grow GDP faster than spending \u2014 up only 1.4% last quarter.<\/p>\n

That worked sort of well when debt was $20 trillion lower and interest rates were near zero.<\/p>\n

But today\u2019s numbers are very different.<\/p>\n

The Congressional Budget Office estimates current policy paths keep deficits near\u00a0$2 trillion annually\u00a0and push debt to about\u00a0120% of GDP within a decade.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the translation. Even if the economy hums at an insane rate of GDP growth, the government is still spending dramatically more than it collects.\u00a0\u00a0Why is it that nobody really understands revenue and expenses in Washington, D.C. and that 85% of our revenue comes from the two buckets of personal income tax and payroll tax?<\/p>\n

The Real Problem Isn\u2019t Taxes or Tariffs.\u00a0\u00a0Here\u2019s the 60-second explainer.<\/strong><\/p>\n

It\u2019s interest.\u00a0Lots and lots of interest. Interest on the debt alone is projected to exceed\u00a0$1 trillion in 2026 and now roughly\u00a014% of federal spending.\u00a0<\/p>\n

That means before we fund:<\/p>\n

Defense<\/p>\n

Social Security<\/p>\n

Medicare<\/p>\n

Infrastructure<\/p>\n

Our Veterans<\/p>\n

It\u2019s\u00a0like playing credit card roulette and the interest just keeps compounding with no end in sight. No State of the Union message Republican or Democrat can outgrow a compounding interest bill this large.<\/p>\n

Politicians Don\u2019t Like To Campaign On Math<\/strong><\/p>\n

TRUMP HAS SET THE STAGE FOR AN AMERICAN COMEBACK AFTER BIDEN\u2019S DISMAL ECONOMY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Last fiscal year:<\/p>\n

Government spent:\u00a0$7.01 trillion<\/p>\n

Government collected:\u00a0$5.23 trillion<\/p>\n

Annual deficit<\/a>:\u00a0$1.78 trillion<\/p>\n

To erase the deficit overnight, you would need one of the following:<\/p>\n

\u2022 Raise taxes roughly 35% (think about top tax rates going from 37% to 50%) and remember almost half the people in America don\u2019t pay federal taxes whatsoever. \u2022 Cut benefits massively, which really means one of the big three: Medicare, Social Security, or Defense. \u2022 Or grow the economy at wartime levels for a decade.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Do any of those sound realistic to you?<\/p>\n

Why Trump Unfortunately Can\u2019t Fix It (And Neither Can Anyone Else Alone)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Even Trump\u2019s policies which add tariff revenue<\/a> are projected to still increase deficits over time because tax cuts reduce revenue faster than tariffs raise it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the uncomfortable truth we all need to face. America does have policy problems, but more importantly, America has a promises problem. Nobody wants to sacrifice anything, and when you are in debt something has to be\u00a0sacrificed\u00a0to get out of debt.<\/p>\n

The Real State Of The Union<\/strong><\/p>\n

The federal debt isn\u2019t going to be eliminated.<\/p>\n

It will be inflated away, written off, monetized, or slowly eroded by negative real interest rates because, mathematically, a $38.5 trillion balance sheet cannot be balanced with incremental policy tweaks. The U.S. doesn\u2019t default. It dilutes.<\/p>\n

Presidents don\u2019t control the deficit anymore. Trump can change tax policy. He already did it. Congress can try to change spending. But they rarely agree. But reality is reality. Changing this quickly is like turning the Queen Elizabeth around in a bathtub.<\/p>\n

Unless America changes expectations or sacrifices are made on both sides of the aisle, the debt clock keeps running no matter whose name is on the Oval Office door. The debate in Washington is ideological. The risk to all of us is our standing to wear the crown of being the world\u2019s currency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
