During his remarks at the World Economic Forum, President Donald Trump<\/a> re-emphasized his commitment to American energy dominance and the role that Venezuela can play. As the founder of one of America\u2019s largest privately held oil and gas companies, my company is ready to play our part, which will mean lower prices and increased security for our citizens and brighter days for the people of Venezuela. Both are worthy and achievable goals.<\/p>\n

President Trump set the wheels of this plan in motion when he\u00a0re-assembled\u00a0America\u2019s leading oil and gas executives at the White House. The purpose was strengthening American interests in the Western Hemisphere after Nicolas Maduro had been removed from power. Venezuela is home to the world\u2019s\u00a0largest supply\u00a0of crude oil reserves.<\/p>\n

By toppling Maduro and inviting<\/a> American energy leaders to the table to discuss the rebuilding of its infrastructure, Trump sent a\u00a0powerful message to China\u00a0and other hostile foreign actors: mess around in our back\u00a0yard at your own peril.<\/p>\n

TRUMP ENERGY CHIEF OUTLINES COAL\u2019S \u2018CRUCIAL\u2019 ROLE IN AFFORDABILITY AS ADMIN PUSHES TO KEEP PLANTS RUNNING<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trump not only understands that energy dominance means global\u00a0dominance, but\u00a0is willing to act on it. At the same time, Venezuela deserves better than the quarter century of corruption they have endured, and the American energy industry<\/a> can help lift an impoverished country into a brighter future.\u00a0<\/p>\n

While Venezuela is blessed with the world\u2019s largest supply of crude oil reserves, its output of\u00a01\u00a0million barrels\u00a0a day is a pittance of what it could be. As U.S. Energy Secretary Chris\u00a0Wright said, oil can only, “become a resource with technology, with capital, with rule of law and a system of governance that encourages the harvesting of those resources to make a better world.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

My home state of Texas produces\u00a06.3 million barrels\u00a0of crude on any given day thanks to the\u00a0hard work\u00a0of\u00a0nearly half\u00a0a million oil\u00a0and gas workers in our state. Venezuela\u2019s industry has fallen into a state of ruin because of its corrupt and illegitimate political leaders, and its citizens are paying the price.\u00a0<\/p>\n

TRUMP\u2019S ENERGY DOMINANCE REWRITES THE STRATEGIC PETROLEUM RESERVE AFTER BIDEN DRAWDOWNS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Yet countries without our tremendous natural resources have come to rely on Venezuelan oil to power their own countries. China, for example, is home to\u00a01.4 billion people,\u00a0and produces around\u00a04 million\u00a0barrels of oil per day. Its demand far exceeds domestic output, forcing a reliance on other forms of energy\u00a0like coal. China is the\u00a0world\u2019s\u00a0largest importer of oil.\u00a0More than half\u00a0of Venezuelan oil exports go to China, often under flagless “shadow fleets” to avoid global sanctions.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Toppling Maduro dealt an immediate blow to China\u2019s energy supply and international standing.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Finally, let us not lose sight of the people of Venezuela. Under Maduro and\u00a0former President\u00a0Hugo Chavez<\/a>, the nation\u2019s poverty rate has spiked\u00a0to\u00a0nearly\u00a090%.\u00a0Roughly\u00a0one\u00a0in four\u00a0of the 32 million\u00a0population\u00a0have been forced from their homes.\u00a0Food,\u00a0education,\u00a0healthcare\u00a0and necessities are out of the question for many.\u00a0<\/p>\n

All this misery\u00a0in spite of\u00a0the nation\u2019s abundant natural resources, which have been mismanaged and abused by a corrupt,\u00a0illegitimate\u00a0and evil regime. For proof of socialism\u2019s failures, look no further than Caracas.<\/p>\n

The critics casting doubt on the path forward in Venezuela are the same people who thought it was fool\u2019s gold to go to Prudhoe Bay on Alaska’s North Slope<\/a> along the coast of the Arctic Ocean. The conditions were too inhospitable to ever make the investment worthwhile, they said. Today, Prudhoe Bay is one of the most significant energy resources in the United States.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Our country has been fueled by an entrepreneurial spirit \u2013 the belief that possibilities are endless through grit,\u00a0determination\u00a0and hard work. We defied the odds to earn our independence, we expanded west, we put a man on the moon. We build companies from the ground up that provide good jobs, including nearly\u00a011 million in the oil and gas industry.<\/p>\n

Under the pro-energy leadership of President Trump, Hilcorp Energy, as well as many others, both independent and major, stand at the ready to embark on this next chapter \u2013 one that can unlock more potential for America, provide new hope for Venezuela and put China on their heels.
