It emphasizes whole, nutrient-dense foods and places protein, dairy, healthy fats, vegetables and fruit at the top \u2014 with refined carbohydrates and grains deemphasized.<\/p>\n<p>The updated guidelines recommend prioritizing &#8220;high-quality, nutrient-dense protein foods as part of a healthy dietary pattern.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/food-drink\/red-meat-can-help-mood-part-healthy-balanced-diet-study-suggests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>RED MEAT CAN HELP YOUR MOOD IF PART OF A HEALTHY, BALANCED DIET, STUDY SUGGESTS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Consume a variety of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/food-drink\/food\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">protein foods<\/a> from animal sources, including eggs, poultry, seafood and red meat,&#8221; the guidance states, while also encouraging &#8220;a variety of plant-sourced protein foods, including beans, peas, lentils, legumes, nuts, seeds and soy.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>HHS Secretary <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/person\/robert-f-kennedy-jr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert F. Kennedy Jr.<\/a> said the new guidelines &#8220;recognize that whole, nutrient-dense food is the most effective path to better health and lower health care costs.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Protein and healthy fats are essential and were wrongly discouraged in prior dietary guidelines. We are ending the war on saturated fats,&#8221; Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>The visual grouping of red meat alongside <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/food-drink\/food\/healthy-foods\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fruits and vegetables<\/a> has drawn attention from some Americans, though health experts caution that the new framework still emphasizes moderation and balance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/food-drink\/eating-chicken-linked-higher-mortality-rates-observational-study-suggests\"><strong><u>EATING CHICKEN LINKED TO HIGHER MORTALITY RATES, OBSERVATIONAL STUDY SUGGESTS<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dr. Craig Basman, a cardiologist at Hackensack Meridian Health in New Jersey, shared ideas for thoughtfully incorporating red meat into a heart-healthy diet.<\/p>\n<p>Not all red meat is created equal, Basman told Fox News Digital \u2014 and people concerned about heart health should prioritize leaner options.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/how-much-red-meat-too-much-experts-weigh-food-pyramid-updates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Red meat<\/a> includes beef, pork, lamb, veal, goat and mutton \u2014 not poultry or fish.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For beef, look for &#8216;loin&#8217; or &#8217;round&#8217; in the name,&#8221; Basman said. &#8220;For pork, tenderloin and loin chops are leaner choices.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t have the leanest cut, Basman suggested trimming the fat.<\/p>\n<p>Cooking methods also matter, Basman said.<\/p>\n<p><a said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Baking, broiling, roasting and steaming are excellent choices, as they allow fat to drip away.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Cooking meat at very high temperatures can pose health risks, according to Basman.<\/p>\n<p>Grilling and frying at high temperatures, Basman said, &#8220;can create harmful compounds, including advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) and heterocyclic amines (HCAs).&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>These compounds have been linked in studies to inflammation and increased risks of heart disease and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/health\/cancer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">certain cancers.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/food-drink\/recipes\/techniques\/grilling\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">If you grill<\/a>, avoid charring the meat and cook at a lower temperature,&#8221; Basman said.<\/p>\n<p>Marinating meat can offer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">health benefits<\/a> in addition to flavor, Basman said.<\/p>\n<p>Acidic marinades made with ingredients like lemon juice or vinegar may help &#8220;reduce the formation of harmful compounds&#8221; during cooking, Basman said.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the inclusion of red meat in the new dietary guidance, processed meats remain a concern among cardiologists, Basman or strictly limit their intake of bacon, sausage, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/food-drink\/hot-dog-towers-budget-friendly-replacement-seafood-towers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hot dogs<\/a> and deli meats, he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;These products are typically very high in sodium and preservatives, both of which are linked to high blood pressure and &#8216;bad&#8217; cholesterol, which may increase the risk of heart disease,&#8221; Basman said.<\/p>\n<p>While the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/health\/health-experts-react-andrew-huberman-backs-trump-admins-new-food-pyramid\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">new food pyramid<\/a> allows for red meat as part of a healthy dietary pattern, it should &#8220;be eaten less often and in smaller portions,&#8221; Basman said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/category\/lifestyle\/quizzes\"
