Chicago<\/a> Mayor Brandon Johnson gave his “full and complete endorsement” for the name “Abolish ICE” ahead of the city’s annual snowplow naming contest.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, the Chicago Department of Streets and Sanitation launched its fourth annual Snowplow Naming Contest<\/a>, which allows people to suggest and vote on names for the city’s snowplows.<\/p>\n

Past winners have included humorous names such as “CTRL-SALT-DELETE” and “Salter Payton.”<\/p>\n

This year, one name that has been pushed on social media was the term “Abolish ICE,<\/a>” a slogan that has been used by progressive activists and politicians against the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.<\/p>\n

On MS NOW’s “Politics Nation” on Saturday, Johnson, who has vocally opposed the Trump administration’s immigration operations<\/a>, gave his support for the name.<\/p>\n

“[Trump] has used [ICE] as a privatized\u00a0force to enact terror,” Johnson said. “And not just terror, but a\u00a0great deal of harm against\u00a0people. And so over the course\u00a0of several years in this city,\u00a0we have stood firm on our\u00a0values. And it just happened to\u00a0coincide with the time in which\u00a0we name all of our fleet utilities.”<\/p>\n

He continued, “And of course,\u00a0you know, we have to take a\u00a0stronger look at how this\u00a0administration has used ICE and\u00a0how it has caused tremendous\u00a0harm. So that\u2019s why that\u00a0particular name of this truck\u00a0being named \u2018Abolish ICE\u2019 has my\u00a0full and complete endorsement.”<\/p>\n

Johnson has promoted the snowplow naming contest on his X account and highlighted one X user’s suggestion of “Abolish ICE.”<\/p>\n

Fox News Digital<\/a> reached out to ICE for comment.<\/p>\n

Chicago residents can submit names until Jan. 10 or until the city receives 20,000 submissions. The city will then choose 25 finalists for residents to vote on from Feb. 1 through Feb. 14. The top six names will be used on one snowplow in each of the city’s six districts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
