Throughout 2025, many instances of Americans exercising their right to bear arms<\/a> to protect themselves, their families and their property made headlines across the country.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As of Dec. 23, the U.S. had seen 14,249 gun-related deaths and 25,606 injuries since the start of the year, according to<\/u><\/a> the Gun Violence Archive.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Of those instances, 1,119 shootings were deemed to be in self-defense, with many cases going unprosecuted due to various laws throughout the country permitting the use of guns in life-threatening situations.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Take a look at some of the most compelling justifiable shootings that occurred throughout 2025, in which Americans used guns to fight back against would-be robbers, attempted mass shooters and suspected home invaders.<\/p>\n

A church security officer gunned down a Michigan man<\/a> in June, successfully stopping him from opening fire on dozens of worshippers celebrating Sunday services.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Brian Browning, 31, was armed with an AR-15-style rifle and 500 rounds of ammunition when he arrived at the CrossPointe Community Church for Sunday morning services in Wayne, Michigan on June 22, 2025, according to<\/u><\/a> FOX 2.<\/p>\n

Witnesses reported seeing Browning exit his SUV in the church parking lot, before donning a tactical vest and camouflage and opening fire just feet from the building\u2019s doors.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A churchgoer subsequently drove over Browning with a pickup truck in an attempt to stop the shooting, but he continued \u2013 hitting a member of the church\u2019s security team<\/a> in the leg and taking aim at another hiding behind an air conditioning unit.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Amid the chaos, security guard Jay Trombley fatally shot Browning, potentially saving countless lives.<\/p>\n

Investigators ultimately determined Browning was experiencing a mental health episode, pointing to social media posts indicating his radicalized views on religion.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The incident unfolded around 6:15 a.m., when an unidentified man walked into Snowflake Donut Shop in Houston wearing a black hoodie and dark clothing while armed with a firearm, according to<\/u><\/a> KHOU 11.<\/p>\n

When authorities arrived on scene, they found a male with a gunshot wound lying behind the store\u2019s counter alongside the open cash register and a firearm, KHOU 11 reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A Virginia homeowner<\/a> will not face charges after shooting and injuring a suspected intruder earlier this year.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police said that around 2:30 a.m. in a Fairfax neighborhood on Jan. 15, 2025, when an unidentified individual attempted to break into a home while the owners were inside, according to<\/u><\/a> FOX 5.<\/p>\n

HOMEOWNER ARRESTED AFTER ARMED CLASH WITH TEEN PRANKSTER: REPORT<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

According to authorities, the suspect tried to break into two nearby homes before attempting to enter the house.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The homeowner was on the phone with a 911 dispatcher when he shot the suspect at the front door, striking him multiple times, FOX 5 reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The suspect was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

While the homeowner declined to comment, neighbors told FOX 5 that rising crime in the area has heightened their concerns regarding safety.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s usually a really safe area,” neighbor Haley Wilson told the outlet. “My family lives around here\u2026 but you\u2019ve got to be safe. Cameras, nice locks \u2014 they help.”<\/p>\n

ATTACKS ON US CHURCHES HAVE RISEN SIGNIFICANTLY SINCE 2021, REPORT FINDS<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Another neighbor, who preferred to remain anonymous, echoed the same sentiment.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“We\u2019ve been living here for 25 years, and it\u2019s like little stuff\u2014cars getting fussed with<\/a>\u2014that\u2019s become more frequent in the last three or four years,” the neighbor reportedly said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One man was killed and another landed behind bars in what authorities determined was a self-defense shooting in an alleged home invasion in a Florida suburb<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to<\/u><\/a> FOX 13, two men allegedly attempted to enter a St. Petersburg home just after 2 a.m. on April 16, 2025, when the homeowner opened fire on the intruders.\u00a0<\/p>\n

One suspect, later identified as 20-year-old Marcel James Williams, was struck by gunfire and later died at a nearby hospital, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n

The second suspect subsequently fled from the scene, sparking a weekslong search<\/a>, FOX 13 reported.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, three weeks later, 22-year-old Ja’quavius Daniels reportedly turned himself in to authorities after being identified as the second suspect. He was subsequently arrested and charged with felony murder, according to the outlet.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
