President Donald Trump<\/a> said that he will call the final shots on a peace deal to end the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is preparing to unveil a new peace plan when the two meet on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“He doesn\u2019t have anything until I approve it,” Trump told POLITICO on Friday. “So we\u2019ll see what he\u2019s got.”<\/p>\n

Zelenskyy told reporters on Friday that he will meet with Trump on Sunday in Florida and will share a 20-point peace proposal<\/a> for the president to review. Additionally, Zelenskyy said that the meeting will likely focus on security guarantees for Ukraine<\/a>, but said it was unclear if “territorial issues will be discussed.”<\/p>\n

“The 20-point plan<\/a> that we worked on is 90% ready. Our task, to make sure that everything is 100% ready. It is not easy and no one says that it will be 100% right away, but nevertheless we must bring the desired result closer with each such meeting, each such conversation,” Zelenskyy told reporters on Friday.<\/p>\n

MOMENTUM BUILDS IN UKRAINE PEACE PUSH, BUT EXPERTS FEAR PUTIN WON\u2019T BUDGE\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The White House<\/a> did not respond to a request for comment from Fox News Digital to confirm the meeting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Trump voiced optimism about the meeting with Zelenskyy<\/a>, and future conversations with Putin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“I think it\u2019s going to go good with him. I think it\u2019s going to go good with [Vladimir] Putin,” Trump told POLITICO. Trump also said that he expects to speak with Putin “soon.”<\/p>\n

US OFFICIALS TOUT PROGRESS IN TALKS TO REACH ‘LASTING AND DURABLE PEACE’ BETWEEN UKRAINE, RUSSIA<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Trump said in November that he would not meet with Zelenskyy again \u2014 or Putin \u2014 unless a deal to end the war<\/a> was in its final stages.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Zelenskyy has indicated progress is being made, and touted that he had a “a very good conversation” with Jared Kushner and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff on Thursday. Specifically, Zelenskyy said that talks focused on ending the war and efforts to ensure lasting peace in the region.<\/p>\n

Trump has met with Zelenskyy on multiple occasions since taking office in January \u2014 including in February when Zelenskyy sparred openly with Trump and Vance in the Oval Office over engaging in diplomacy with Russia to end the conflict. Additionally, Trump met with Putin in Alaska<\/a> in August.\u00a0<\/p>\n
