Ted Danson<\/a> is opening up about the not-so-glamorous side of on-screen romance.<\/p>\n

Danson and his wife, Mary Steenburgen, appear together in Season 2 of “A Man on the Inside,” and during an appearance on the “Today”<\/a> show, they were asked whether being together for over three decades makes it easier or harder to play love interests on screen.<\/p>\n

“Easier for me because I\u2019m not crazy about love scenes with strangers \u2014 actors,” Danson said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The host quickly quipped it was a “good answer sitting next to your wife<\/a>,” but Danson insisted he wasn\u2019t playing it safe.<\/p>\n

“No, but it\u2019s also true. You feel guilty and awkward and it\u2019s wrong,” he said.<\/p>\n

While Danson doubled down on how uncomfortable he feels about intimate scenes, Steenburgen couldn\u2019t resist teasing him.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“See, I don\u2019t \u2014 I don\u2019t, but anyway,” Steenburgen said, grinning.<\/p>\n

Danson covered his ears and joked, “Is she going to talk about it?”<\/p>\n

Still, he said, their bond makes the work easier, not harder.<\/p>\n

“But I have total permission, because she knows I love her and we\u2019re husband and wife<\/a>, to fall madly in love with her on camera,” Danson added.<\/p>\n

The Hollywood power couple also revealed the surprising truth about acting out romance onscreen together.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s an interesting challenge because it\u2019s the opposite. Usually you would go, \u2018Hi, nice to meet you,\u2019 then you\u2019re doing some sort of romantic scene with the person you just met,” Steenburgen explained.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“In our case, we had to unlearn everything about each other and see each other for the first time,” she said.<\/p>\n

The pair also shared the ritual they use before cameras roll \u2014 a nod to legendary acting teacher Sanford Meisner.<\/p>\n

“Yes, normally you just say \u2018break a leg,\u2019 but we both studied \u2026 Mary studied with Sandy Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse,” Danson said.<\/p>\n

Steenburgen explained, “We, just to remind ourselves to really connect, we would say his name right before the take \u2014 and it worked.”<\/p>\n

Danson chimed in, “He grounds you.”<\/p>\n

Danson and Steenburgen first met in 1983 and married in 1995. They each have two children<\/a> from previous marriages.<\/p>\n

In January, Steenburgen admitted she initially thought Danson was a bit of a ladies\u2019 man \u2014 similar to the character he played on “Cheers”<\/a> from 1982 to 1993.<\/p>\n

“I admired him so much as an actor, but I didn\u2019t personally know him, and I had this stupid idea that he was maybe kind of a slick guy,” she told People<\/a> at the time.<\/p>\n

However, she soon realized “how wrong” she was.<\/p>\n

“Slick guys don\u2019t say, \u2018gosh-a-rooni,\u2019 after making love. I\u2019d like to apologize to my granddaughters,” she joked.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
