When Washington, D.C., grinds to a halt, the liberal media rushes to tell you the sky is falling. Randi Weigngarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, and her union cronies cry out that schools will collapse without the Department of\u00a0Education\u00a0and that President Donald Trump<\/a> is to blame for the shutdown. She has said he is “holding the American people hostage.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0only people holding Americans hostage are the teachers unions<\/a>. They held your children’s\u00a0education\u00a0hostage during COVID. They hold teachers hostage when they don’t conform to liberal standards. And worst of all they treat parents as roadblocks and hold them hostage when they push back.<\/p>\n

The government shut down, federal workers at the Department of\u00a0Education\u00a0were furloughed, more than half the DOE staff has been let go, and schools are still running. Teachers are teaching. Students are learning. The world didn\u2019t end.<\/p>\n

Here\u2019s the truth the media will never say out loud: this shutdown pulled back the curtain<\/a>\u00a0on\u00a0one of the biggest\u00a0scams\u00a0in\u00a0America: The U.S. Department of\u00a0Education.<\/p>\n

SCHUMER’S SHUTDOWN IS LEAVING OUR TROOPS AND THEIR FAMILIES HIGH AND DRY<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

For decades, teachers unions<\/a> and the liberal allies they bankroll\u00a0in\u00a0D.C. have told the American people that without the federal bureaucracy,\u00a0education\u00a0would crumble. They said states couldn\u2019t handle\u00a0education\u00a0funding, accountability, or\u00a0innovation without “guidance.”<\/p>\n

They were wrong.<\/p>\n

Schools continued operating during the shutdown because the real funding\u2014Title I, IDEA, and other major streams, flows through long-established formulas and scheduled appropriations that continue even when federal staff are not at their desks. States already administer these dollars.<\/p>\n

The shutdown simply paused administrative processing and new rulemaking, not the actual flow of funds to schools.\u00a0In\u00a0other words, the Department of\u00a0Education<\/a>\u00a0wasn\u2019t “running the system” before this, and the shutdown proved it.<\/p>\n

TRUMP IS USING THE GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN TO DO SOMETHING NO PRESIDENT HAS EVER DONE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

The shutdown proved what many of us already knew: states are not\u00a0only capable of managing education, they already do.\u00a0Education\u00a0in\u00a0this country is funded and governed primarily at the state and local level. The federal government adds bureaucracy, not value.<\/p>\n

Let\u2019s be clear: there was never any reason for the U.S. Department of\u00a0Education\u00a0to exist. It was created as a political favor\u00a0in\u00a01979, a deal between Jimmy Carter and the teachers unions to lock in\u00a0their power. And it shows.<\/p>\n

The teachers unions<\/a> are not just\u00a0one of many players\u00a0in\u00a0this story. They are the reason the Department of\u00a0Education\u00a0exists at all. The department gives them power, money and political protection, and\u00a0in\u00a0return the unions defend the department\u2019s existence at every turn.\u00a0One feeds the other. That is why they work so hard to convince Americans the country would collapse without them, because without Washington, they lose control.<\/p>\n

The teachers unions have been feeding off the Department of\u00a0Education\u00a0for decades to weaponize money and\u00a0influence, pumping ideology\u00a0into curriculum standards, teacher training programs and accreditation pipelines that tell parents to sit down and shut up.<\/p>\n

Now that the department\u2019s lights are off, they\u2019re panicking. You\u2019ll see their headlines: “The world is burning down without the Department of\u00a0Education!” The\u00a0only thing “burning” are the lies they have peddled to Americans for 40 years.<\/p>\n

Out here\u00a0in\u00a0the real world, kids are learning<\/a>, teachers are teaching, and parents are back\u00a0in control. The system works just fine without federal\u00a0interference.<\/p>\n

This shutdown is a wake-up call. It didn\u2019t break American\u00a0education. It exposed who has been breaking it all along.<\/p>\n

The unions can go cry about it. The rest of us will keep doing our jobs.<\/p>\n
