What began as a movement rooted in compassion has metastasized into what can only be described as a\u00a0Homelessness\u00a0Industrial Complex \u2013 a sprawling web\u00a0of\u00a0nonprofits, bureaucrats and activists feeding\u00a0off\u00a0the\u00a0very\u00a0crisis\u00a0they claim to solve.<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve built an empire\u00a0of\u00a0corruption draped in “evidence-based” slogans that shield politics, protect paychecks and betray\u00a0the\u00a0vulnerable.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0report lays it bare:\u00a0these networks posture as defenders\u00a0of\u00a0America\u2019s homeless, yet in truth,\u00a0they have become\u00a0their\u00a0greatest exploiters,<\/strong>\u00a0dependent on failure to sustain power.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0origins trace back to 2013, when\u00a0the\u00a0Department\u00a0of\u00a0Housing and Urban Development (HUD) enshrined\u00a0Housing First\u00a0as federal doctrine<\/a>.\u00a0Promising to “end\u00a0homelessness\u00a0in a decade,” HUD stripped away requirements for treatment and accountability, effectively institutionalizing a policy.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0result?\u00a0Spending soared. Grants proliferated. Outcomes collapsed.<\/p>\n

Over 700 nonprofits \u2013 collectively taking in $2.9 billion in government grants \u2013 filed briefs defending public encampments and opposing enforcement\u00a0of\u00a0anti-camping laws as “cruel and unusual punishment.”\u00a0Their concern wasn\u2019t compassion \u2013 it was\u00a0the\u00a0preservation\u00a0of\u00a0their\u00a0money\u00a0pot.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Private foundations joined\u00a0the\u00a0crusade.<\/p>\n

Major philanthropic giants \u2013 Ford, Robert Wood Johnson and Gates Foundations \u2013 poured\u00a0billions\u00a0into Housing First and “equity” initiatives to promote ideology under\u00a0the\u00a0guise\u00a0of\u00a0helping\u00a0the\u00a0homeless.<\/p>\n

Donor-advised funds masked\u00a0the\u00a0flow\u00a0of\u00a0money, enabling anonymous advocacy giving that blurred\u00a0the\u00a0line between charity and politics.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile,\u00a0coalitions like Funders Together to End\u00a0Homelessness\u00a0funneled vast sums toward\u00a0upstream political causes \u2013 including\u00a0the\u00a0promotion\u00a0of\u00a0reparations and anti-policing movements\u2026\u00a0<\/strong>all\u00a0under\u00a0the\u00a0moral camouflage\u00a0of\u00a0addressing\u00a0homelessness.<\/p>\n

THESE CITIES’ FEIGNED COMPASSION MAKING DRUG AND HOMELESSNESS CRISES WORSE<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n

Donors and taxpayers<\/a> thought\u00a0they were funding solutions. Instead,\u00a0their money fueled\u00a0lawsuits, lobbying and ideological activism\u00a0that deepened\u00a0despair.<\/p>\n

A prior Capital Research Center report,\u00a0“Marching Toward Violence,” exposed deep overlap between\u00a0homelessness\u00a0coalitions and extremist networks \u2013 pro-Hamas organizations, Marxist movements and anarchist collectives sharing\u00a0the\u00a0same funders and infrastructure. Groups like\u00a0the\u00a0Western Regional Advocacy Project glorify violent fugitives such as Assata Shakur, while\u00a0the\u00a0Autonomous Tenants Union Network boasts about rejecting cooperation with mainstream nonprofits to preserve “revolutionary independence.”<\/p>\n

They have hijacked\u00a0the\u00a0language\u00a0of\u00a0compassion to wage a political war against law enforcement, property rights and personal responsibility.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0outcome is measurable and devastating: billions spent, streets worse than ever, and a 77% increase\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0death rate among\u00a0the\u00a0homeless,\u00a0under\u00a0the\u00a0banner\u00a0of\u00a0“justice.”<\/p>\n

For too long,\u00a0the\u00a0Homelessness\u00a0Industrial Complex has thrived in darkness, remaining untouchable, unaccountable and unchallenged. But sunlight is finally piercing through.<\/p>\n

President Donald Trump\u2019s recent\u00a0executive order\u00a0on homelessness<\/a> marks the first serious course correction in over a decade. The complex\u2019s all-out resistance \u2013 including a\u00a0recently-filed lawsuit \u2013 only underscores its entrenchment and fear of being held accountable for real outcomes.<\/p>\n

But\u00a0the\u00a0homeless can no longer wait.<\/p>\n

If compassion is to mean anything, funding must be tied to measurable outcomes such as real reductions in\u00a0homelessness. Every dollar should be used to restore human lives, not bankroll ideological causes<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0time has come to reclaim compassion from corruption by returning funding to what it was meant to do: restore hope, recovery and purpose.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0light is on.\u00a0The\u00a0truth is out. Now it depends on us to keep\u00a0the\u00a0pressure, hold\u00a0the\u00a0line and never let\u00a0the\u00a0darkness close in again.<\/p>\n
