Bombarded by gamewatchers during her report, one attendee was several decibels higher than the others as he shouted “6-7” multiple times behind the journalist on a hot mic.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“At the start of my live shot, fans were kind and added a fun element to my coverage. As it went on, a few fans stuck around and things got a little out of hand which is what you saw,”\u00a0Cleary wrote on X<\/u><\/a>. “Live TV is unpredictable and sometimes you have to roll with it!”<\/p>\n

From teachers in classrooms<\/a> to reporters on the street, no one is safe from the viral “6-7” meme taking the younger generation by storm after being popularized by the Charlotte Hornets’ basketball point guard LaMelo Ball.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A 15-year-old high school sophomore told The Washington Post<\/a>, “It\u2019s more of an ironic thing. People are making fun of the fact that it\u2019s not funny.”<\/p>\n

The meme \u2014 which The Wall Street Journal dubbed “this fall\u2019s most obnoxious classmate” \u2014 originated from a\u00a0song by rapper Skrilla<\/u><\/a>, titled “Doot Doot (6 7).”\u00a0The rapper told The Washington Post the inspiration for the lyric<\/a> came after riding past a truck with “\u20186-7\u2019 written on it in dust in Arizona.”<\/p>\n

The trend triggers whenever either number \u2014 six or seven \u2014 comes up. Teens then shout “6-7!” repeatedly while gesturing with both palms up, alternating like a balance scale.<\/p>\n

“If you\u2019re like, \u2018Hey, you need to do questions six, seven,\u2019 they just immediately start yelling, \u2018Six Seven!\u2019 It\u2019s like throwing catnip at cats,”\u00a0Cara Bearden<\/u><\/a>, a math teacher at Austin Peace Academy in Texas, told The Wall Street Journal.<\/p>\n

While some have racked up views for\u00a0venting about the fad<\/a> on social media, other educators have taken to TikTok to share their plan for adding the trend to lesson plans to\u00a0make “6-7” cringey<\/u><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Some millennials<\/a> have compared the trend to “1738” by Fetty Wap and Lil Wayne\u2019s “6 Foot, 7 Foot” from their childhood, while Gen X has compared the craze to\u00a0Tommy Tutone\u2019s popular song, “867-5309\/Jenny.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
