Jennifer Aniston<\/a> revealed the “selfish” reason she chose not to adopt a child.<\/p>\n

The 56-year-old opened up about coming to terms with not having children during an upcoming appearance on the “SmartLess<\/a>” podcast with Dax Shepard. Co-host Monica Padman, who is going through her own in vitro fertilization (IVF) journey, asked Aniston if there was “peace” after a decision is made.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s so peaceful,” Aniston said. “But I will say there\u2019s a point where it\u2019s, like, this is out of my control. There\u2019s literally nothing I can do about it.<\/p>\n

“When people say, \u2018But you can adopt,\u2019 I don\u2019t want to adopt,” she added. “I want my own DNA in a little person. That\u2019s the only way, selfish or not, whatever that is, I wanted it.”<\/p>\n

Aniston explained there are moments where you think about what it would have been like to have children with someone.<\/p>\n

“It’s romanticizing it, but once you’re on the other side of it, it’s out of your control,” she noted. “It just wasn\u2019t in the plan, whatever the plan was.”<\/p>\n

Aniston added: “It\u2019s very emotional, especially in the moment when they say \u2018that\u2019s it,\u2019 because there is a weird moment when that happens. But there’s a moment when it’s actually, ‘Oh yeah, this is not even viable.’ And you’re like, \u2018Oh.\u2019”<\/p>\n

Aniston recently shut down rumors that she never had kids because she’s a “workaholic.”<\/p>\n

“They didn\u2019t know my story, or what I\u2019d been going through over the past 20 years to try to pursue a family, because I don\u2019t go out there and tell them my medical woes,” she told Harper’s Bazaar U.K.<\/a>, pointing out that her medical matters are “not anybody\u2019s business.”<\/p>\n

“But there comes a point when you can\u2019t not hear it \u2013 the narrative about how I won\u2019t have a baby, won\u2019t have a family, because I\u2019m selfish, a workaholic,” she continued.<\/p>\n

At one point in time, Aniston took the rumors<\/a> about her life “very personally” and characterized the attention on her lack of children as “really hurtful” and “nasty.”<\/p>\n

“I used to take it all very personally \u2013 the pregnancy rumors and the whole \u2018Oh, she chose career over kids\u2019 assumption,” she told The Hollywood Reporter<\/a> in 2021. “It\u2019s like, \u2018You have no clue what\u2019s going on with me personally, medically, why I can\u2019t \u2026 can I have kids?\u2019 They don\u2019t know anything, and it was really hurtful and just nasty.”<\/p>\n

Aniston revealed her fertility struggles<\/a> in 2022, after years of keeping the details of her journey under wraps.<\/p>\n

“I was throwing everything at it,” Aniston said during an interview with Allure magazine<\/a>. “I would\u2019ve given anything if someone had said to me, \u2018Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.\u2019 You just don\u2019t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed. There is no more, \u2018Can I? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.\u2019”<\/p>\n

“I don\u2019t have to think about that anymore.”<\/p>\n

Aniston and Brad Pitt were married from 2000 until 2005. She moved on with ex Justin Theroux after meeting the actor on the set of “Wanderlust.” The two married in 2015 but went their separate ways in 2018.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
