Ridley Scott<\/a> claimed Hollywood is “drowning in mediocrity” as he can’t find a well-made movie these days.<\/p>\n

The “Blade Runner” and “Gladiator” director claimed he has to watch his own movies to be entertained by a film.<\/p>\n

“The quantity of movies that are made today, literally globally \u2013 millions,” Scott said, according to Metro<\/a>. “Not thousands, millions\u2026 and most of it is s—.”<\/p>\n

Scott does not have a go-to comfort movie, instead finding his own films haven’t aged.<\/p>\n

“Well, actually, right now, I\u2019m finding mediocrity \u2013 we\u2019re drowning in mediocrity,” he said. “And so what I do \u2013 it\u2019s a horrible thing \u2013 but I\u2019ve started watching my own movies, and actually they\u2019re pretty good! And also, they don\u2019t age.”<\/p>\n

“I watched \u2018Black Hawk’ the other night and I thought, \u2018How in the h— did I manage to do that?\u2019 But I think occasionally a good one will happen, [and] it\u2019s like a relief that there\u2019s somebody out there who\u2019s doing a good movie.”<\/p>\n

Scott began his career in the 1970s, taking on films such as “The Duellists” and “Alien.”<\/a><\/p>\n

The success of “Alien” and later “Blade Runner” cemented his status as a sci-fi film director.<\/p>\n

He ventured into other storylines with “Gladiator,” “Thelma & Louise” and “Black Hawk Down.” Scott has received multiple Academy Award nominations with “Gladiator” taking home best picture in 2001.<\/p>\n

Scott said Joaquin Phoenix<\/a> nearly refused to play his villainous role, Commodus, in the 2000 action film.<\/p>\n

“He was in his prince\u2019s outfit saying, \u2018I can\u2019t do it.\u2019 I said, \u2018What?\u2019” he recalled in an interview with The New York Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The British director was able to convince Phoenix to stay on set.<\/p>\n

“I can act as a big brother or dad,” he explained, talking about his approach to keeping the actor in his role. “But I\u2019m quite a friend of Joaquin\u2019s. \u2018Gladiator\u2019 was a baptism of fire for both of us in the beginning.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
