Boston, MA 10\/17\/2013 (wallstreetpr) –\u00a0Nokia Corporation (ADR) (NYSE:NOK) has entered into a deal with Tsitsikamma to Tataouine Expedition (T2T) to develop its own mapping application \u2018HERE\u2019. The expedition kick started on October 5, from Tsitsikamma, South Africa.<\/p>\n
Nokia\u2019s Yoganathan Naidoo from HERE stated that they are incredibly excited to work closely with T2T\u2019s expedition team. He also added that teaming up with T2T will enable them to accurately capture information pertaining to road names, speed limits, road quality and geometry.Apart from that, new Points of Interest (POI\u2019s) like fuel stations, shops, schools, eateries, border posts, accommodation and more details will also be added.<\/p>\n
The crew will carry a Here powered GPS device which will collect the POI\u2019s and geometry throughout its journey. The data collected will be transmitted to the Nokia Sub Sahara HERE team, who will update the data in every two weeks. This will help improve the map content within Africa to a great extent.<\/p>\n
HERE is already a provider of automotive grade maps for many countries in Africa, which includes Botswana, Lesotho, South Africa, Namibia, Kenya, Mozambique, Swaziland, Egypt, Morocco and Reunion. The data collected is extensively verified to make sure that the HERE maps are always accurate and up to date. Thus, working with T2T will help Here to enrich its map content to a larger extent.<\/p>\n
Nokia is smart enough to equip the team – Matt and Tracy Angus-Hammond and Ishtar Lakhani \u2013 with its new Nokia Lumia Smartphones.These will help the crew to capture pictures, connect and update the regular information through social media channels.<\/p>\n
The whole objective of this journey is to display the African continent in a whole unique way and to create an everlasting image of it through 44 school food gardens that would be formed along the course.
